"cougars" pththth

I am not down with the whole "cougar" thing. Why is it that a woman who is over the age of thirty or forty (or whatever the cutoff is these days; who knows when women stop being cute and start being scary?), anyway, why is it that women of a certain age who are attracted to men who are less than that age are suddenly labeled predatory? Because face it, folks, cougars are predators.

And many women are embracing this label. Perhaps they believe it is empowering, I don't know. Perhaps it is. Perhaps I'm the wrong-headed one. But this has been bothering me ever since I first started seeing it, and now it has become a nearly constant barrage of what I consider negative imagery all over the media. Including Courtney Cox's new show in the fall. When did Courtney Cox become a predator instead of a friend?

It's the twenty-first century. Can we not move beyond the virgin/mother/crone archetypes as the only socially acceptable roles for women? Those of us who do not fall into those categories do not have to be relegated to the role of vagina dentata.

Just my $.02.

So much word.

I don't get it either. It's huge, and I don't get it.

i don't relate to it at all, but then i'm firmly in the crone stage! i look like a crone, anyway, though at heart i often feel about 17.

I find this offensive, too. For more reasons than I am able to express.
