God, I'm SO easy where Smallville is concerned. I really enjoyed this past week's episode. And it was all about relationships, which, on this show, usually makes me crazy (except for Clark/Lex, of course).

The basic FOTW/kryptonite plot was easy to overlook (so let's do that), since it was really just a mechanism to enable some necessary adjustments to all the primary relationships in the show.

I'm so happy that Clark and Lex are friends again, for now. I know that the end of the friendship is inevitable, but I'm expecting a wrenching and heartbreaking rift, rather than the little tiffs we've seen in the past. And really? I'd like for Lex to be the one who eventually walks away, even though that will just kill me.

I believe the title of this episode refers to how Lex feels about Clark. The man sure knows how to win back someone's...friendship. ;) Apparently, groveling is required. By the way, it would be great to see Clark say something sometime about Lex’s significance in his life. Lex has been doing all the giving and the talking and the expressing of feelings. Clark just saves his life a lot. Sure, actions speak louder than words, but sometimes, a few words would be nice.

I was tremendously relieved at the absence of any of those incredibly awkward, forced Lex/Lana scenes. I really don’t mean to be offensive. I'm sure KK is a lovely woman--she seems to be when I've seen her on talk shows, and I'm sure she and MR are good friends off screen--but please, no more scenes in which he tells her that she's the only bright spot in his life or whatever the hell all that crap was at the end of last season and the beginning of this one. Michael Rosenbaum is a brilliant actor, and when he can't sell a scene, it's a bad scene. It works much better when he says those things to Clark, as he did in this episode. Those feelings will make their inevitable break that much more painful and ominous.

I even watched all the Lana scenes without fast-forwarding. It seems that AlMiles have decided that if they put her in a completely different show from the rest of the cast, they can keep her around without the fans screaming at them so much. I think it's a good decision.

I'm not hating her so much with Jason. I'm not really sure why that is. Even though it's incredibly inappropriate for a student and a teacher in a high school to be in a relationship, the necessary secrecy of their relationship means that when they are together, they generally won't be with anyone else; hence the whole "separate show" idea. Which works out well for me, anyway.

I like Jason's character, and he seems to help her lighten up a bit. Perhaps that's why I'm able to watch her scenes with him. She has always struck me as a character who needs psychiatric help, perhaps medication for depression, but she doesn't seem that way so much with him. When she's with Clark, however...

I only hated one Lana scene in this episode. Oddly enough, it was her scene with Clark. I thought it was terribly cruel of her to pretend that she came to football practice to see him. Way to string the guy along, babe. You could see the hope in his eyes when she said that, and it just broke my heart for him. (Kudos to TW for the acting, btw!) That, in my opinion, was so much crueler than Clark telling Chloe that he didn't feel "that way" about her "right now." But she's a teenager, and in an awkward situation, so I'll cut her some slack.

I liked the Chloe/Clark scene at the end. I know a lot of posters just hated it, and saw it as more Chloe-humiliation, but I thought it was very well-done. It was well-written and well-acted by TW and AM, and I thought the little kiss on the cheek was a sweet, friendly gesture. I do wish Clark could have been honest with Chloe about why he couldn't return her feelings at this time. Would it be so hard to say that he's still hung up on Lana? After all, Chloe is supposed to be his best friend. Some things he has to lie about, like being a top-secret super-powered alien. Some things he should tell the truth about, especially when she's been so painfully, searingly honest with him. But, as with Lana, he's a teenager. Things like that happen. Perhaps he'll eventually be able to be honest with her.

Also, Lois is gone. It's like Santa read my list for what I wanted for Smallville and gave it too me! I wanted Clark and Lex back together, less Lana and no Lois. Okay! I think she's supposed to come back, I know we'll be seeing much more Lana than I can stand, I know something hurl-inducing is happening in an upcoming episode regarding the relationship-which-shall-not-be-named (nope, nope, not gonna read spoilers!), I know Lex and Clark are going to stop being friends. I'll probably whine about this show again in the future, but this week? I'm happy. :)

Last week I posted a rant on both the TWoP and on the WB website. This week, they sucked me back in. SO easy.

I love the way you write :)
Can I still be your friend even though I like Lois? *grin*

Would you mind if I had your email address? I'd like to send you a Lex icon that my girl made for you.
You can email me if you want. My addy is on my user page.

Thank you for the compliment! I posted this on the WB site (where I had posted a very unhappy rant last week) as well, and so far this is the only response I've gotten:

sorry, but thanks to tv, i have the attention span of a flea.... too long!

It's a sad, sad world at the WB. :D

And yes, of course we can still be friends! *G* I actually like Lois quite a lot--she's always been a great character in the comics and movies and even on the old black-and-white TV show. I also have enjoyed Erica Durance's performance, even though she looks about ten years older than Chloe and Lana which is really distracting. I just don't think Lois as a character should be on Smallville--it messes with the canon too much.

I would love to see the Lex icon--thanks to you and your girl. *hugs* My email is on my info page too. It's pabarr1117@yahoo.com. Mail away!

Hee. Yes. Lex devoted to Clark.

I'm with you on the MR comment. He's such a good actor that when it's bad, you know it's the writing. Like that time he told Helen about the walls around him. *gags* You could tell MR was disgusted.

Over on TWoP, the Lex to Helen speech is called the "Wall Around My Pants" speech. The Lex to Lana bit about the her being a contrast to the corporate sharks is called the "Sharks Around My Pants" speech. Hee! I love that. *g*
