I usually try to come up with some sort of appropriate subject line for my entries, but the only thing I could think of for today is "FUCK!" And that isn't something I want to see in red the next time I look at my journal, you know?

So, I had two projects to do today, not that big a deal. I was going to put some new RAM cards in my computer; I only have 128 MB and I want to have a gig. Also, I need to put together this file cabinet that I bought right before I had surgery and never did get to put together, so it's been this big, annoying thing-in-a-box for three months.

After much effort, opening and closing my computer several times, unplugging and plugging back in every damn cord and connection on the back several times, installing and removing the RAM cards several times, two hours on the phone with Dell technical support, Kingston customer service and TigerDirect customer service (all of whom were lovely people and very helpful, truly the best part of my day), my computer is completely dead. It just beeps pathetically and never boots up.

Now I have to wait for a computer technician to come to my house to replace the original 128 MB RAM card AND my motherboard, and I have to return the two 512 MB cards that I got because they go too fast. I need 266 mhz and I bought 400 mhz. Who knew? Certainly not the book that came with my computer. So THAT project went really well.

And my file cabinet is all over my bedroom in pieces because the instructions SUCK and the customer support line closed for the day before I realized I needed them. I just don't understand why I'm supposed to put the Left Cabinet Slide (Part CL) onto the Right Side Panel (Part A), and I don't know what they mean by "use hammer to gently tap the part into place." Do they mean, "tap, tap, tap?" Because that ain't workin'. Do they mean, "BAM! BAM! BAM!" Because that would probably do it, and, considering my mood, I'm willing to go for it.

Ah well, I'm about a quarter of the way through with the file cabinet. I should be able to finish it tomorrow.

And my computer WILL be resuscitated. Oh, and I think the tech visit is free. I'm still under some kind of warranty or service contract or something. And hey! The tech is coming to my house, which is amazing. But even if it costs something I'll pay it, and even if I had to pack the thing up and take it somewhere I would do it, because I love my computer.

And I'm sure I will love my file cabinet when it becomes something besides a collection of random parts that I want to hit with a hammer.
