My First Fan Video!

Okay, it's as done as it's going to get. This video is set to The Dave Matthews Band's Gravedigger. It's a dark vid, not a romantic one.

Thank you to Rhiannonhero for help and advice early on when I first decided to make a video, and tremendous thanks to Mkitty_03 and Euphony for betaing. Your help made this a much better video. Also, without your detailed instructions the vid would still be imprisoned in my computer. :)

Just right click on the link below and Save Target As.

Gravedigger

This file has over 24 MB, so it may take a while to download.

The following link is to a smaller version (13 MB).

Gravedigger

And here is the story: At the beginning of the song, the "Gravedigger" is the personification of a cruel fate that surrounds Clark and his loved ones with violence and destruction. Clark protests this fate by trying to save everyone he loves. While doing this, he begins dealing out violence and destruction himself. Thus, he is in danger of becoming the very thing he protests.

I hope you like it! Let me know what you think!

Well, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, making me feel sympathy for Clark is no small task, but you did a wonderful job doing so. I love the Emily sequence especially. So very creepy. It really works for me.

You worked very hard on this, and I think the work really shines through. I wish that Clark were as aware of his shortcomings and potential dangerous tendencies towards solving problems with violence in the show as you convey him in the vid.

Good work, and I hope to see more in the future.

Thanks, euphony. For the great comments and for everything. :)

I can't tell you how much that comment means to me. I'm smiling all over.

You have done a wonderful job with this. At first I didn't think you could make the song work, but you proved me wrong. I love all the mini stories you tell here that combine into the bigger story of Clark and his struggles to save the world and those he loves. The Emily section is beautifully creepy, like [livejournal.com profile] euphony_m stated above.

I can't wait to see your future work and never hesitate to ask for my beta help in the future if you want it:)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your comments make me so happy. :)

At first I didn't think you could make the song work, but you proved me wrong.

That makes me feel so good. Though I couldn't have done it without you and euphony.

And thank you for the compliment on the Emily section. It's the only part that stayed almost exactly the same from the beginning of the process.

I will definitely take you up on the beta offer. *hug*

Came here through [livejournal.com profile] mkitty_03's rec.

*Very* nice video. You have an extremely interesting concept here, and you did a wonderful job getting it across. I had my doubts downloading it, that the song could work for Clark, but you made it work extremely well. You have a wonderful melancholic mood going here - all the individual little tragedies of Smallville, tied together wonderfully with an ongoing theme: we watch Clark try so very hard to save the people he loves and as he realizes that ultimately, he can't - and that his meddling might even hurt them in the end. In particular, the Ryan and Emily verses gave me chills - I love how you tied in the stories of the different mutants to the people Clark loves personally (Martha, Lex, Lana).

And this is your first fannish video? Veeeery nice. I'm glad I downloaded it. :is extremely impressed:

Thank you, Linzee. I appreciate your comments and I'm so glad you liked it. I'm glad that you could see what I was going for. :) It sounds like it came across exactly the way I wanted it to.

And yes, it's my first! I have others I want to do (and I will do them), but this one started pictures in my head as soon as I listened to it.

Wonderful! Absolutely wonderful. We've been looking forward to seeing your video and neither of us were disappointed....fantastic!! The song you chose goes so well with the video.
Can't wait for more!

Thanks to both of you! I'm so glad you liked it. And I do plan on making more. :)

P.S. Your icons are always so cool and pretty. I love this one and the sparkly winged angel one.

I really enjoyed how you built upon the basic concept from "Hourglass" (one of the best SV eps, IMO:-)) and created a tangible, visual storyline from it.

Thanks for posting!

Thank you! :) I appreciate that, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Oh! I love this. Clark does get awefully more violent than other Superman itterations, I think, and the bowling ball to the abdomen really illustrated that nicely. I enjoyed this beyond what I am able to communicate effectively.

[identity profile] capnzebbie.livejournal.com 2005-01-05 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you abi! *hug* I wanted to show a progression and an escalation from defense to attack, but with Clark still being shocked by all the violence, even by his own actions. I hope I did that.

If this vid gave you even a fraction of the enjoyment that your fic gives me, then I'm happy. :)

Be very, very happy.

Oh, very well done! I'm a little disappointed that it's Clark-centric. You know, Clark who? ;)

Ah! You were expecting a video about the star of the show...um...Lana? Just kidding! :)

Don't worry, our Lex will have his own video soon. Maybe more than one.

I'm glad you liked it!

Very nicely done. I like the pace, the timing, and the story you created by building on the idea in Hourglass with some very tangible examples of how Clark is becoming this person he seemed to be so afraid of being in Seasons 1 and some of 2.

Gorgeous work.

Thank you, caelum. :)

I like the pace, the timing, and the story you created

Coming from a wonderful storyteller like you, that means a lot.

Thanks, frelling_talk! I thought about you while I was making this, because I like your vids so much. I'm glad you liked it. :)

btw, that's the most frenetic icon I've ever seen. I like it. :D

This is great--there's a lot of emotion here; it's very affecting. I love, love the way you strung all of the little vignettes together. *applauds*

Nice!

I like that it veers away from the usual Asshat!Clark vids and that it showcases the almost endless number of times he has to save everyone on the show. Using the Cassandra-Hourglass bits at the beginning nd the end was a clever way to section the middle parts, and there were some excellent clips that matched the lyrics beautifully. Good job. ^_^

[identity profile] capnzebbie.livejournal.com 2005-01-06 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Iris! I'm glad you liked seeing Hero!Clark instead of Asshat!Clark for a change. :) I think he really does the best he can a lot of the time. And thank you for commenting on the clips matching the lyrics. That was important to me.

[identity profile] roxymissrose.livejournal.com 2005-01-06 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I really felt sorry for Clark-- everyone around him in constant need of rescue and death everywhere, and the scene in the graveyard said that it was a burden almost beyond bearing. But he has to, doesn't he?. I liked your choice of visuals very much and they flowed together beautifully. (Also you made me like the song, not my usual flavor *G*)

You did a terrific job, sweetie-- you got your idea across and did it excellently. I'm all thrilled for you! *hug*

Thank you for the wonderful comments, roxy. *hugs back* You described the story perfectly. *big happy smile*

That song is just morbidly cool. It wasn't what I planned for my first fanvid (with me being a big ol' schmoopy Clexer), but it just grabbed me. I'm glad it's getting such a good response.

Saving, saving, saving....until no one left.
Whoa...just great! Love the song, too...had lots of referrents you took advantage of.

Thank you!
