My company's credo is
Apr. 14th, 2005 10:53 pm"We want to be the company you look to first for the communication products and services that connect you to what's important in your life."
So, here's how we've been communicating.
We had a new phone system installed last Friday. On Thursday, one of my co-workers asked me how I thought the first day would go. I said, "I think it'll be a clusterfuck." Well, how prescient am I?
We immediately discovered that the headsets for the old system wouldn't work with the new system like they were supposed to, so we were scrounging for headsets. There weren't enough to go around, so half of us (including me) didn't have one. Even if I had had one, my phone wasn't working right, so it wouldn't have mattered. That was Friday.
Saturday, we seemed to be having a low call volume. We discovered that one of the lines (the main number) was ringing twice and them hanging up on the customers. Another line (the toll-free number) was routing our customers all over the country. Then, we started getting calls from all over the country.
I was off Sunday and Monday.
Tuesday, the customers could call in, but we couldn't hear them. So, we made outbound calls, but we couldn't hear the phone ringing after we dialed. Unfortunately, the customer we were calling could hear the ringing, so they thought they were getting crank calls from us. We didn't find this out for a couple of hours.
Wednesday, the phones seemed to be pretty much working for inbound and outbound calling. However, none of us could access our voice mail. We also have to access an outbound line to call our other offices because they (the lucky dogs) are still on the old phone system.
So today (Thursday), they're still working on the phones. My department manager was ranting about it, saying, "Before Friday, we had phones that worked! With customers on them! That you could talk to!" I tried not to laugh until I was far away from her.
I've kind of been enjoying it, but that's probably because I'm easily amused. You know, sometimes you have to either laugh or have a stroke. I would generally rather laugh. *G*
