capnzebbie | The chemo begins

So, my sister had her first session of chemo. It went pretty well once they finally got started with it. It was the getting started that was a pain in the ass.

She had gone the day before to have head, chest and bone scans. The bone scan machine was broken, but the guy said, "Oh, that won't cause a problem with starting your chemo." Well, apparently it caused a big problem with starting the chemo because they had to wait for about an hour and a half to get the doctor's okay to start the chemo because there was no bone scan.

So, finally, they get started. But the port doesn't work. The port that was surgically inserted at great pain and inconvenience, in a surgery that hurt her worse than the abdominal surgery. So they just started an IV in one of her wrists and did the chemo there.

She found out a few days later that the catheter for the port was kinked in her vein and was never going to work. The guy said, "Well, we can go in through and incision in your leg [actually, groin] and thread a wire up there and grab the thing and straighten it out, but there's no guarantee that it won't kink up again." She said, no thanks. A few days later she had the port removed--Yay! She's very happy about it.

Her hair has just started falling out a little bit. A friend gave her a purple scarf and a Gilligan hat with purple frogs on it, so she's prepared.

So, me. Because it's all about me me me. *sigh*

I have been banned from her shower because I have a staph infection that won't. fucking. go. away. Two rounds of antibiotics, and I thought I had gotten rid of it, but I think it's coming back. And I definitely don't want my sister to get it. So I'm sharing a shower with my parents. Very annoying, but it's okay. I'm also taking all these nutritional supplements that are supposed to enhance my immune system. I hope they work.

I told her that all my internet friends said to give her a hug, but I was afraid to touch her. So I gave her a virtual hug from across the dining table. She appreciated it. *g*
