In case anyone was wondering...
Jul. 31st, 2005 10:41 pmI haven't dropped off the face of the earth, I've just been working a lot. Mandatory overtime (sucks). I think I only had about five hours over this pay period. Last one, I had twenty-three. And I had to work on the 4th of July. The one before that, I think ten or eleven.
I don't like overtime, and I don't work it unless it's mandatory. I don't even really like working forty hours a week. I think thirty-two is enough for anyone, don't you? Everyone should always have three-day weekends (instead of one-day weekends like I've been having lately).
Our staffing is always horrible in the summer, so the people who hang in there just work and work some more. In addition to all the vacations, one year is the average time a call center employee lasts on the job; thus, all the people we hired last summer are gone and we have to hire a whole new batch. I've been on the job four years, but I've moved into a new position and I'm hoping to move up again in a couple of years. As I move up in the hierarchy, I spend less time on the phones. I don't think I would still be here if I had just stayed on the phones. We have a few people who've been doing this for fifteen or twenty years, but I can't imagine allowing myself to be verbally abused eight hours a day for twenty years. That would have to fuck you up.
So anyway, besides being overworked and a bit tired, I'm fine. I'm having a well-deserved three-day weekend to make up for my one-day weekend last week, so I've been doing fun and useful stuff. I got my hair cut, and it looks really dorky. Somehow, he cut it right at just the wrong place in the curl so that it's sticking straight out from my head on the sides. I'm so happy.
And I've been cleaning my bedroom. I now have clear floor space instead of just a path from the door to the bed. My laundry is done and put away. I've been working on some videos, including a brand new one that I just thought of a couple of days ago. I have several video wips, and I want to get at least one finished sometime soon.
Tomorrow, I'm going to have a massage and run a bunch of errands.
Oh, and I did finally get rid of the stupid staph infection. After the Keflex and the Doxycycline, the Cipro finally did it. You know, everyone worries about the abuse of marijuana, but no one pays enough attention to the abuse of antibiotics. It's the drug-resistant infections (not the munchies) that are going to send us the way of the dinosaurs.
And I have some brand new supplemental insurance for cancer from Aflac. I got it on July the 22nd, so after August the 22nd, I can start getting tested. Yay! (or something like yay)
Sister update
Sis has had three doses of chemo, so she may be halfway through. Her doctor said they would do six rounds and then check her blood work. If her CA 125 is low enough, she won't have to do any more. If it's not, she may have to do two more.
Her hair is pretty much gone. She got it buzzed, but didn't have her head shaved because her scalp was too sensitive. She's been using duct tape lately to get rid of the last little hairs. I suggested masking tape a couple of weeks ago as a joke (I use it to get cat hair off my clothes), but I guess it was a good idea. She's using the duct tape because it's stickier. I don't think that use was included in the duct tape book my niece gave my dad for Christmas. I'm sure it'll be in the sequel.
She doesn't like the wig because it's too hot. She has many, many head wraps and hats. Her best friend's eight-year-old son thinks the head wraps are great. She let him wear one of them. It's pale yellow with little pink rosebuds on it.
Sis: He thinks it makes him look like a pirate.
Me: Uh huh. But it actually makes him look like a tiny Amish woman, doesn't it?
Sis: Yup.
I hope y'all are doing well! *waves at LJ*

Date: 2005-07-31 10:01 pm (UTC)And the whole drug-resistant infections thing is scary. We just assume that we'll take some pills and get better. I wonder if I'll grandchildren will ever be able to think that way.

Love the "tiny Amish woman" reference!

Date: 2005-08-02 11:05 pm (UTC)You're so right! If I am actually productive the whole time I'm at work, I'm so exhausted I can barely make it home.
It's very hard to find just regular old soap. But the anti-bacterial stuff just kills the weak ones and leaves the stronger ones to multiply.
Love the "tiny Amish woman" reference! *g* I'm sure he looked very cute!
