the movie

Mom and I went to see Superman Returns today. There's a little bit of spoilery stuff here, so I'll cut tag.

I take back everything I've ever said or thought about Erica Durance. Well, except for the part about Lois not belonging in Smallville. That's just true.

But I would rather have a rude, abrasive, not very bright, socially inept and occasionally amusing Lois than what we were given in the movie. Whatever that non-entity was. pphhtthth.

The kid was kind of cute and interesting.

Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey did very good jobs. I can see MR's Lex Luthor evolving into Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor. I've never seen any relationship between Gene Hackman and MR--Gene Hackman's performance was too cartoonish. Kevin Spacey's performance, on the other hand, was genuinely scary at times, just as MR's is.

Parker Posey was terrific! I wish she had played Lois.

Is Brandon Routh entirely CGI? I thought he just looked computer-generated in the commercials, but now I see that he looked that way during the entire movie. Every time they showed a close-up of his face, I thought of Shrek.

Jimmy was cute with his crush on Clark. Frank Langella was just...forgettable. Which is sad, because I always like him in all his movies. He wasn't volatile enough here, though. I miss Jackie Cooper.

I liked seeing Noel Neill and Jack Larson in bit parts. Although, hearing Noel Neill say to Lex, "You showed me pleasures I'd never known" on her deathbed was a little, um...icky. But yeah, also kind of amusing in a really disturbing way (as was the thing with the dogs). Yes, I can see Lex doing that. Heh.

The violence toward Superman was a bit much, in my opinion. I don't think it was appropriate in a movie that children will see.

In short, I liked Kevin Spacey and Parker Posey, and I did not like Brandon Routh and that incredibly boring woman who was pretending to be Lois Lane.

Of course, all of this is just my opinion. My mom liked the movie. I didn't dislike it as much as I thought I would.

She really was useless, wasn't she? The more I think about it, the more annoyed I get, so I should probably stop thinking about it. :)
