SV and SPN
Oct. 25th, 2007 11:35 pmI really enjoyed this episode. I hope other people liked it too. So far on my flist it's one pro and one con. First, the very meta movie thing made me laugh--it was just a hoot! Yeah, I know they were trying to make a heavy-handed point (as they frequently do), but it just made me laugh. :) The KK near-look-alike actress made me laugh too. In the past I might have been bothered by it, but I've reached some sort of Zen attitude toward the show.
Second, Lois and the editor (I don't know his name yet) didn't piss me off! They didn't even annoy me! I was so happy! They kind of had a little chemistry going on that I didn't see with Lois and Ollie (other people did, I know). I still hate him, but his appearance was pretty short and tolerable this time. It also made me laugh that Lois's "disguise" was big pair of horn-rimmed glasses, because everyone in Comic Book World (tm Lady Ra) knows that if you wear big horn-rimmed glasses no one will recognize you. *g*
Third, I enjoyed over the top evil Lana. I like her much better as a villain than I ever did as the perfect ideal small town princess that everyone worshipped. I've gone beyond anger, denial, bargaining and depression where Lana is concerned, and I've pretty much reached acceptance. Part of my new Smallville Zen.
Fourth, I loved Lionel for just a minute there. It's been a long time since I felt anything but hatehatehate for Lionel, but his confrontation with Lana made me laugh out loud! "Yeah, I heard you were kidnapped by a crazy woman." "Yes, you, Lana!" HAHAHAHAHA!
Fifth and most important, I LOVED the Clark/Lex scene. It was so good to see them on screen together, and not fighting! Not friends, but not fighting. I loved seeing Lex get his geek on with the comic books. *ggg* As soon as I realized that Warrior Angel was part of the ep I just had to see Lex as a comic book geek again! The special protective display cabinet! Lex knowing exactly what was going on and where to find it in the comic books! The plastic-encased comic books that he gave to crazy guy at the end! YAY!
I would have liked a brief reference to Ryan, but oh well, Smallville has only a passing acquaintance with continuity.
Also, I know they're really slamming the lonely hero theme, but I liked it in this scene because I know Lex was only partly referring to Clark. He was also saying this for himself. Lex is the hero who is going to save the world from the alien invasion, and the lonely hero is his image of himself right now; it's his rationalization for being alone, for losing so much--his mother, his beloved nanny, every wife and girlfriend, and I know the PTBs are thinking especially Lana, but I'm thinking especially Clark.
I hope we see more of the boys together onscreen. I know we'll never have the old Clex romance back, but they are still so good together.
I hope this isn't the best episode of the season--I'm hoping for at least a couple of great eps since this may be the last season, but it's my favorite episode of the season so far. :)
