Lex love

I'm having a Smallville marathon; I'm trying to get images in my head for vids so I can get some of these things out of my wip pile.

First season Lex. First episode Lex. I just love him. Loved him from the beginning. In the opening scene, Lionel says, "You'll never get anywhere with your eyes closed!" As an adult, Lex keeps his eyes open no matter what. (That's one of the reasons I focused so much on Lex's eyes in my Lex vid, Put Your Lights On.)

A lot of fics mention Lex being brave by going into the plant during the Jitters hostage situation, but really, Lex's first impressively brave moment is in the Pilot ep. He's at the plant at night, and he sees Jeremy (scarecrow guy) across the street. This ghost from his childhood suddenly appears out of the dark. Then he's gone! And Lex hears, "Help me..." coming from the cornfield, just like the first time. Does he run away screaming like a little girl? No! He gets a flashlight and goes into the cornfield. LOVE! *happy sigh*

Another small but impressively brave Lex moment comes in the Invisible Boy episode. Lex, Clark and Victoria are upstairs investigating the haunted room and Lex pushes Clark back so he can go first! He doesn't hide behind Clark, he gets right up in there. Eyes open, dammit!

I'll be rewatching every episode that I've seen, and watching a few for the first time. I've never seen the episode where Jonathan dies (the whole idea was too upsetting for me) and I missed a few other eps in seasons four and five, partly because season four was just...season four, and because season five was the beginning of the Lexana, and yeah, that was upsetting for me as well. However, I happen to have a Lexana wip, so I'll be watching every episode this time around.

For now, though, I'm basking in the wonderfulness of season one! :)

I'm going to try to watch Season 4 with an open mind. I hated it so much the first time around that I think I either missed or fast-forwarded through most of it. The whole Countess Isobel thing--erk! So I'm going to pretend I'm watching a different show, like Charmed or something.

Ha! One of my friends calls S4 "Charmed" and it's weird because some of the eps I thought I didn't like, I wound up liking on rewatch. Plus Transference is awesome and Tom is awesome in it. I quite liked Run. And Onyx is cool too. Double the Lex!

Transference and Onyx were wonderful! I was expecting to be grossed out by Transference (I would've preferred a Clark/Lex switch), but I really enjoyed it. And Onyx--whoa!

there's a lot to admire in lex. maybe that's what it takes to make a great villain -- so much goodness and potential gone in a wrong direction. that makes him interesting. he could've been the hero of the story!

He's such a complex character, and MR plays him so well. I'm going to miss him next season (if I watch--not sure about that). If this were any other show, he probably would be the hero--the lone hero fighting against an alien invasion!

yeah, i may not watch next year either. as it is, the last few eps of S7 i watched on youtube! i didn't care a thing about kara or jimmy or or or... and it doesn't look promising for next year.

without lex? i doubt it'll interest me at all, alas.

the lone hero, woo!

I love season 1 and a few right up after that, but at the moment it has broken my heart and I don't think I could rewatch it. More power to you!

Thanks! I'm hoping to complete some of these wips. I have a Lexana wip, much to my chagrin (the song just grabbed me and said "LEXANA!") so I have to actually watch the parts with Lana this time instead of fast-forwarding through them. She has a very annoying voice during season one. I didn't notice it the first time what with all the fast-forwards and the mutes.

Season one was absolutely the best, and I agree with you on Lex being very brave in the pilot episode when he went into that corn field -- all alone, in the dark, after seeing something which not only must have seemed like a ghost, but which had brought back vivid memories of his most traumatic experience. *admires courageous Lex* And, of course, Lex going first when he and Clark went to check out the possible intruder in "Shimmer" was a lovely touch. *happy sigh* Not that Lex's bravery wasn't also awesome in "Jitters." *curls up in a blissful Lex-haze*

He's wonderful! Such a great character. They had to work very hard and take some very strained turns to villainize him. He's still my hero, though. :)

SV's Lex Luthor will always be my hero, no matter what irrational villainizing gets spouted by the other characters. *nods firmly*

I actually had to correct someone recently who claimed that Clark was the hero of "Jitters." I pointed out that, while Clark did indeed save Lex and Earl, Lex was the one who saved everybody else.
