New kitty!
Sep. 5th, 2004 12:40 amWe have a new kitten! I hope he stays okay. The vet says he should be okay, but he can't guarantee anything. His name is Purlie, after one of my Mom's favorite musicals. My dad had suggested Claire or Pearl, but then we found out he's a boy, so I said, "How about Purlie? Like Purlie Victorious Judson from the musical?" So there we go. Purlie Victorious Kitty.
My best friend, E, called me yesterday afternoon and asked if we had room for another cat (we have four right now), and I said sure. She found a kitten that had been dumped in the road. Someone had just taken this cat away from his mother and threw him out of a car in the middle of the road. E said he was just sitting there, and she was amazed that no one had run over him. He was in shock and just sitting there on the hot pavement with road oil all over his feet. He had landed on his face and had blood on his mouth and one eye was scatched. E got road oil and blood on her shirt, but she wore it all night until I called her this morning to tell her that he made it through the night. She's kind of superstitious.
Mom and Dad took him to the vet and he spent the night. They treated him for shock and checked him for internal injuries and he came home today with antibiotics and eye ointments.
Mom and I have been taking turns holding him all day today, because he's just barely old enough to be weaned, so we wanted to keep him warm and close. When we put him down to eat, we have to stand right next to him and pet him the whole time, and he just meows constantly while he's eating and shakes and shivers until we pick him back up and hold him for a while. Poor little thing!
Anyway, he's in the laundry room right now. We're seeing how he'll do in a warm place by himself. At first, he found a hiding place and stayed there for a while. Right now he's sitting by the door meowing loudly. I think I'll go pick him up again for little while.

Date: 2004-09-05 07:51 am (UTC)He sounds like he's in good hands. I'm sure he'll be fine. I've rescued lots of abandoned kittens and they are tough little fellas.
Not like my dog, whom I've taken to the vet SIX times in the three months that I've had him. I've maxed out my credit card just paying for dog stuff. And he's STILL sick and barking all day. *clutches hair*
We started a new training program to help with the barking. I hope that helps because I can't afford the "dog behaviorist" (read: shrink) that my vet recommended.
*shakes head* What is the world coming to?
