surgery

I'm having surgery on Monday, so wish me luck!

My sister died of ovarian cancer a few years ago, so my mom, my niece and I got tested for the BRCA gene that makes you more likely to have breast and ovarian cancer, and we all have it. I decided to have a hysterectomy/oophorectomy to avoid the ovarian cancer, and that will also make me less likely to have breast cancer.

This has been a weird year so far.

Thank you! My surgeon is planning to go in through my navel, so if everything works out I should have minimal scarring and fairly quick recovery. That's what I'm most nervous about--that the navel part won't work and he'll have to open me up.

A bilateral mastectomy is down the road for me as well, but my surgeon said that having this surgery now will make me less likely to get breast cancer, so I can wait a bit on that.

I'll post after the surgery to let people know how it went. *hugs*
